Comments:

With the new rover van still under construction, I was forced to take a
performance hit this year by operating from the home station--no hilltop, no
tower, 3 directional antennas with no rotors, no amplifiers, no preamps.
Troposcatter conditions were worse than in the CQ WW VHF, especially on
east/west paths. Even CW didn't help. In some years the date of the sprint
happens to fall on the peak evening of the Perseids meteor shower, although
this wasn't one of them. It's a broad peak, though, and I did hear a couple
single-syllable pings toward the end of the sprint. On Es I heard VE1PZ FN85 at
684 miles / 1101 km and K2DRH EN41 at 746 miles / 1201 km, and almost completed
with W9RM DM58 at 1713 miles / 2757 km.
