After WW SSB, my wife Kathleen said she wanted to do a contest. She has
contested in the past, and had a couple of plaques to show for it, but it has
been decades since she has competed.
We figured we would need another op and we were glad that Mark, N5OT, had time
to join us. The plan was for her to operate the whole time, and Mark and I
would share the other radio, do some coaching and just hang out.
Conditions on both 10 and the low bands were excellent on Friday and we were
starting to get excited about the contest. Unfortunately, it was clear from
the early going that 10 was not the same. Then 15 shut down early as did 20.
It was a struggle from that point. Kathleen's rate stayed steady the whole
way, but Mark and I struggled to make a combined 102 Q's over the last 6 hours
of the contest.
Kathleen had a great time, making about 2/3 of the QSO total and improving
greatly. She ran the full 12 hours with just one band change. It was also fun
to have Mark join us
Thanks for the Q's and moves
