Comments:
Arrived at Radio Oakley around noon Friday, good thing as I ended up the 10m
tower twice to track down a fault in the stack system.
As the contest started it became somewhat obvious that conditions were not the
best, always interesting particularly from Zone 3.
The last time we did a full multi in this contest was two years ago, and it was
double the score. not to be this go round, and probably not for a number of
years to come.
on Friday, the night shift did their best and there was a brief opening into EU
on 80m Friday night. K7GK went to work battling 40 meters and we were glad to
have him at the helm as our regular 40m op WA6O was at VP6V. N6RO took on his
favorite 160m band (with WX5S assisting) doing his best putting qso's in the
log despite noise. NA6O took on 80 meter captain position.
Saturday the poor conditions really revealed themselves. Although a number of
the western EU stations were logged, we were unable to hear into central Europe
leaving those mults for (hopefully) a later opportunity. Overall the upper
bands were anemic and only slightly productive from Northern CA. 10 meters was
limited to the usual trans equatorial/pacific end of cycle stuff.. Lights kind
of on but I would not even call it on life support.
Saturday night/Sunday AM once again the night crew did a stellar job of
scraping the bands of every qso and mult they could get in the log while
keeping their sanity in check. K7GK was the only one to break the 1000 Q
barrier.
With a slight improvement of the Solar conditions on Sunday, Both K3EST (20m)
and myself (15m) were successful in getting into central EU logs.
unfortunately there were not extended run opportunities there, leaving us to do
most of our volume with the beams out to the Pacific later through the event.
We were none the less glad to have gotten the European stations we did get into
the log. WX5S picked through 10M as best as possible, getting our 10m numbers
into 3 digits.. and that says a lot considering the condition of the band.
Dean N6BV once again joined us for a couple of several hour shifts via remote
and that system seemed to once again work very well giving him some quality
time running Asia/OC.
The entire team was absolutely professional despite being exposed to poor
conditions and we were really appreciative of the entire team of excellent
operators.
Ken's Contest Chili was great as always, and in a rainy contest weekend is
always a welcome part of the Multi Multi Experience at Radio Oakley.

Overall The Radio Oakley team really enjoy the Multi events, even with less
than stellar conditions to take on the challenge of the weekend, I and the
entire team are all grateful to Ken N6RO for the Station and opportunity to put
Radio Oakley on the air the way it is designed to be!

dedication and support, we look forward to hearing you all on the air soon
