Comments:
We decided to celebrate Finland's 100-year independence by using SRAL's special
callsign, with a /0 added for the Åland Islands. The call was so long that you
could pretty much press F1, go to the kitchen to enjoy a snack and then return
to the hamshack just in time for a finished CQ :)
A third transceiver would have been useful: it was challenging to balance the
need for sporadic SA multipliers on a semi-closed 20 (Saturday evening) and the
need for sporadic EU multipliers on 10+15 (Sunday) with the need for QSO points
from the runnable bands. We both managed to get some 1-1.5h of rest during the
most silent hours, as the remaining operator manned both stations in dual-CQ
SO2R style (but no interlock required this time!).
In any case, this was good practice for the upcoming WRTC next summer, and even
though the bands were miserable, an epic scoreboard battle with the guys at SK3W
made it really memorable. After all the sweat and tears on both sides of the
sea, our final claimed scores are < 0.1% apart, barely more than one average
QSO. A joint work of art!
Thanks to all those hardcore operators who stayed on the air to make QSOs
despite the sun's greetings.
Kim OH6KZP & Pasi OH6UM
