Comments:
Started out the contest really well worked over 90 the first hour. Then shortly
after going from 20/15 to 20/40 the SWR on my SteppIR went high. I lost about an
hour trying to figure out what was wrong. I finally gave up and had to use my
ground mounted BigIR for 40 meters. Sunday morning all I had for 20 was my 40
year old Mosley TA33 at 45 feet. Needless to say I had a pretty tough time
making any rate. Sunday afternoon I was about to throw in the towel. I went
outside to the tower and removed my ICE M-303 from the circuit. Turned out that
was my SWR problem so I was able to use the SteppIR for the remainder of the
contest. I was relieved because I thought the Driven Element on the SteppIR had
gone bad for the 3rd time. It's a great antenna but in cold weather you never
know. Lost a couple hours trouble shooting the SWR problem and only having the
TA 33 Sunday morning really hurt my score.
