Comments:
Rapid temperature drop from +12 C on Friday morning to -10 C on Friday evening
resulted in my rotor on the main tower got frozen and my main beam got stuck
pointed to EU where I stupidly left it after working 6O6O. :(
I was hoping that next morning the sun would heat it a bit but at -16 C it never
happened. Had to climb the tower and manually heat the rotor with propane torch
and after few kicks the antenna moved.
I was so happy that missed the start of the Contest, only realized that it
already started 30 minutes after while trying to connect to live scoreboard. No
biggie since as a single op I had 2 hours extra, but I guess it affected my
score on 15 which closed pretty early here. Can't understand why I decided it
starts at 2 PM... :(
20 meters died early too, and 40 was better open to EU than to the U.S. so I
stayed more on 160 and 80... Conditions were fantastic, I couldn't hear may
close neighbors like K2NV and VE3EJ, however, EU was pretty strong on 40 and 80.
Usually I could never break the 1000 QSO barrier, but this year it seemed to
happen pretty easy considering no 10 m at all and poor 15...
The only 10 m contact was with VE3FJ who graciously agreed to move for me.
The activity of VE3's was amazing according to posted scores, however I heard
very few this time.
Live score board is a lot of fun (thanks to VA2WA!), I enjoyed competing
shoulder to shoulder with guys like AA3B, N4YDU, WE9V... Unbelievably great
score from Chris KL9A @ K7JR! I can't even imagine how one can get a n almost
170/hr. AVERAGE rate in this Contest. Obviously, being on the left coast helps
in terms of 15 and 20, but not THAT much. Congrats, Chris!
Expecting some other great score to show up.
No gear breaks this time, everything worked as it should.
Thanks to all for the Q's, this NAQP will be definitely the one to remember!
