Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB operated 2E in 2018 Field Day.
Our EU2000i generator ran beautifully this year. Last year it
quit right away, so we had to fall back to 2D. Dealer said it was
fouled by the ethanol in gas-pump fuel, sitting for even a few
months. He did a complete fuel-system cleanout and told us to use
canned ethanol-free gasoline. Expensive, worth every cent;
2 to 5 yr. shelf life.
To start we got 283 Qs 18-21Z for 88/hr on 40 CW and 20 SSB. We
did well later on 20, 40, and 80 CW, e.g. 144 Qs 00-02Z. QRN
from storms and QSB made SSB slow, but affected CW much less.
We quit at 0335Z to sleep and got on again by 1030Z Sun.
QRN was much lower and SSB rates much better than Sat. CW rates
were good on 80, 40, then 20m. We made 333 total Qs 11-15Z for an
average 83/hr. We slowed a bit to refuel generator and ops, then
got 66 total Qs in the last hr. on 20 CW and 40 SSB.
In all we put in 16.5 hr. BIC. Our total 1002 Qs and 1751 points
was our best FD result ever, way more than 673 Qs and 1013 pts in 2017.
