Comments:
Lots of fun even though conditions were not great. For some reason, the time
between 2200 and 0200, which is mid-day here in Hawaii, was particularly bad,
with any contacts hard to find for me. After that, things really picked up on
20 and I spent many hours running US and JA stations. The rate was not high,
but steady. This contest seems to be very European oriented, which makes my
number of multipliers low compared to the number of contacts. All in all, it
was great and I think I improve my cw contesting technique with each one.
The comments above are about last year's contest, but are appropriate for this
year as well. I finished installing a Spiderbeam less than six hours before the
contest start, which was at 0200 local time, and only got three hours of sleep
before the contest. It was a tired and sleepy 24 hours! The new antenna seemed
to work well, although there was no way to compare it with the Hexx beam it
replaced. Time will tell... My score was down 50K from last year and I
operated four more hours, but I really don't think that was the result of the
antenna change. What caused it I don't know, except to blame it on
"conditions" or possibly the operator slowing down...
Thanks for all the Q's.
