Comments:
This is my 44th year of submitting a score in the ARRL 160M Contest.
I had planned on doing a serious SO-Assisted effort this year. But that didn't
work out.
The contest started well with a few EU stations in the log by sunset, including
an amazing signal from LZ2WO 30 minutes before sunset. But after the sun went
down, I started hearing the QRN from many thunderstorms between Texas and the
east coast of the USA. I was struggling to complete QSOs that should have been
easy to hear.
I knew there were many callers but the QRN was winning the battle. By 0330Z the
noise was unbearable and I quit and went to watch TV with the XYL. Too bad
because I think Friday night could have been a great night for the contest.
After that I just played around and worked a few people every now and then.
Maybe next year will be better for me.
73, Richard - K5NA
