Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB did Multi-2 in Jan. 2018 NAQP CW.
From 18-21Z N3UM ran on 20m. for bulk Qs while W3GB clicked spots
on 40m. for mults. After 21Z N3UM ran on 40 and W3GB clicked spots
on 20 and then 80m. In this way we got combined rates of 70 to 84
Qs/hr and a total of 70 mults from 18-02Z, except for just 54 Qs
22-23Z due to supper breaks.
Great conditions; QRN very low, and K =1 to 2. How great? At 2344Z
GW3YDX answered N3UM’s CQ on 40m, S3 off the back of the beam. What?
AGN? Yep, GW3! Sounded too loud to be true, because QRN was below S1.
An ON at 0016Z, HA at 0047Z, and DL at 0121 were similarly loud and clear.
From 02-04Z we had our best 2-hr combined rates, 120 and then
123 Qs/hr with N3UM on 80 and W3GB on 160 m. Rate dropped to
“only” 86 Qs in the 04-05Z hour, on 160, 80, and some 40m.
We got our last 50 Qs and 2 mults 05-0540Z, then QRT when rates
died. We were pleased to get 25% more Qs than we did in 1/18 NAQP
CW. Even with 14% fewer mults than last year we claimed an 11%
higher score.
The mult deficit on 40 m. included AB, BC, NB, NS, and YT which
we got in 2018, but also nearby DE, NJ, and WV. On 80 m. we also
missed far VEs plus AZ, ID, ND, NV, OR, and WY we got in 2018.
Many of these missed mults are semi-rare; we may nave been CQing
at the same time they were instead of tuning. On 80, it seems
like skip to W7 was not good.
