Comments:
Conditions had been great during the week. Experience tells me that this would
mean it would end in tragedy, and indeed on Thursday we got news of a large
solar disturbance.
I lived in hope though. All through Friday I was hearing reports of good
conditions, and when I turned up on site on Saturday and switched on, I heard
W2RE 59 at 11am local time. I then proceeded to work him with 4w, since I in my
haste, I hadn’t hit the on button on the amplifier.
I should have known better. W2RE was the only guy audible for the next 2 hours.
The rest of Saturday was slowwwwww until around dusk when things picked up a
bit. But then at 8pm it was like someone had switched off the propagation.
Sunday was even worse. I was accompanied by S8 line noise all day, which
together with weaker signals meant I lost many partial calls, and also didn’t
manage to complete a lot of exchanges. The noise reduction on the 7610 makes for
a much more comfortable experience than with other radios, but there’s only so
much one can take and again at 8pm on Sunday, I pulled the plug.
Thanks to Victor EA5KV for hosting me for this one, lets see if we have better
luck next time
