Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB operated Multi-1 HP in the June 2019 Stew Perry.
N3UM ran for 1 hr. 2234-2336Z on 1836 kHZ and got just 16 Qs. Better
rate 2343-0039Z, 40 Qs/hr, 31 running and 6 click & pounce, for 56 Qs
and 75 points total at 0039Z. First 2-pt. Q was at 2251Z, first 3-pt.
Q at 0024Z.
W3GB had limited time but did well 0102-0245Z; he got 21 Qs and 42
pts, with two 6-pt. Qs, in KP2 and KP4. N3UM came back for 2 hrs.
0250-0449Z and got just 37 more Qs, 24 of them in 3 short runs, for
49 more points.
We made NO 4 or 5 pt Qs. The KP2 and the KP4 were there till QRT,
but we never heard or worked ANY other grids more distant than EL97
in central FL and EN52 on the IL/WI border.
We never did the June Stew Perry before. Our total 111 Qs was far
inferior to the 265 Qs we made in the Oct. 2016 Stew, which included
10 EU Qs, 1 in CA, and many W7s.
We have to conclude that 160m. can be quite good a few weeks
after the fall equinox, but quite poor near the summer solstice.
The K index was 1 or 2, not a problem. It seems like there were
just not enough dark hours for the D layer to thin out much.
