Comments:
A struggle with a far lower score than last year. Conditions were pretty fair
Saturday night but just as I started getting some traction on 20 late Sunday
morning I developed some local, broadband, noise that basically wiped out the
band and even made 15 and 10 difficult. The signal was very weird on the IC-7300
band scope with a triple peaks about 30kHz wide and spaced every 50kHz. I've
never seen anything like that.
160 and 80 were of no value with high QRN levels and seeming low activity. 20
and 40 basically swapped places, in terms of Qs, from last year. 15 was about
the same and 10 actually did open for just a bit but, as is far too often the
case, no one was home. Mults were *way* down from last year with almost nothing
heard from MB, NL, NT and NU. Seven ON mults really saved the day.
It was nice to work both VY1AAA and KL7SB on 20 CW. The Northern California
Contest Club was out in force and included a tremendous M/M effort from the gang
at N6RO. Also heard on many bands, and worked for 3 Qs, was N8OO. Some DX was
worked with great signals from HI8RD (40), HP3SS and S51DX (both on 20). Thanks
to everyone who participated!
