Had a great time this weekend in the contest. Ran this one from the home QTH in
Yankton, and boy can you tell the difference between a super station and a dinky
home setup.
Was pleasantly surprised to see 10 and 15 open and managed to hop on those and
get a good number of contacts (125 combined). Then I got sleepy and took a nap
around 5 hours in. Looking back, I probably should have found other ways to stay
awake as I probably could have made more QSOs on 15 or 10.
All in all, I was very pleased with the results. The IC7610 worked flawlessly.
Things to change for next time: Build a receive antenna for 80m. 59+30 noise
makes the band useless. Build another 40m antenna. Mine is orientated E/W, so
would be nice to get one N/S for more side lobes to the coasts. Finally (for
now) I need to make sure I can work the first 10 hours and not take any time off
during it. The last two hours were beyond slow.
73 and see you all in the next one!
