Comments:
My 8th attempt at this one, and my best -- if I ignore 20, 15, and 10.
When we bought this 2nd home in 2008 I decided to concentrate on the Low HF
bands. My station in Woburn had "decent" High HF antennas as I
started
that shack in 1996 when I still had my (original) Technician license from
1962, and I put up reasonable yagis on 6 and 10. After getting my Extra in
2000 I added an "ok" antenna on 20 and a rotatable dipole on 15. But
my
backyard in Woburn doesn't have the room for decent Low HF. It shows in my
scores.
After Tony, K1KP, convinced me to join the YCCC in 2011 I knew I needed to
expand to the Low HF bands (and add CW...) This is the first ARRL SSB
contest here in Harpswell where I felt that my little pistol station was
reasonably useful on 160 and did OK on 80 and 40. LP and a dipole on 20
just generates frustration. And a 40M vertical on 15 has too high an angle
to do well. (Forget 10 -- the few stations I heard never heard me.)
All S&P or C&P - yes, the big knob IS useful.
Some general observations:
* Why do so many hams not understand the purpose of their "TX Monitor"
button?
* Incredible how many hams used their history file and and left me at MA
although I tried to change them to ME!
* SA on 15: So loud and could not hear me: I wonder how many stations said
"59KW" and left off a "0"???
