Comments:
I was looking forward to this after winning a plaque last year, hi, but don't
think its in the cards as I heard a higher Qso number in the last hour. Could be
geographical propagation and antennas and I probably didn't run enough but I had
a lot of fun. Better luck next year. Maybe I'll see how much digital action is
on then. I only do a little rtty now and then but may go to the dark side, FT
modes, in the near future.
I checked the SO2R box but didn't really do any real so2r operating but its nice
to be able to listen on 40 while being on 80 and vice versa. If a spot popped up
I could see if it was really there before leaving a band to try to work it. That
saved a lot of time and aggravation and 40 was not exactly a hot band from here
to VA depending on the time of day. Some 40m Q's were tough but not as much as
those ten 20m Q's, hi.
It goes without saying sometimes that Qso Parties would be a lot less fun
without mobile and portable ops but I always have great admiration for those
folks. I tried hard to work them all whenever spotted. Matt, W4GO, is amazing.
According to his scheduled route I missed him on BOT somehow and tried to work
him on both bands at all locations. I had 43 Q's with 22 of those resulting in a
new county. The other mobiles I could only muster 8 or less Q's. Lots of times I
went to a spot without hearing them and it took a little while to realize there
was at least 1 guy spotting stns he worked while running so that might have
happened I suppose. Not sure I understand the purpose of that.
But thanks to all who went through the trouble to drive and operate or drive and
set up in a different county. You make it a lot more worthwhile to play in these
events and thanks to the fixed stations who put some time on the radio to make
for an enjoyable Qso party.
