Comments:
Amazing what a solar flare can do to charge up HF prop and contest activity at
all levels and layers. Some flutter and deep QSB fades but the bands never
crashed. Similar to last year's WPX with 20 open to EU all day into the late
evening both nights here. The bonus this year was a surprising strong opening on
15 to EU and most of the US plus VK/ZL both days. And lots of E cloud short skip
on all the high bands with 10 waking up nicely for a welcome change.
This event sounded like Cycle 25 is way ahead of sked but ofcourse it was only a
sneak preview. Felt like a time warp back to the late 60's and late 70's at
times for me with 15 sounding a lot like 20 Sunday morning. Probably spent too
much time just listening and admiring the superb activity from all over. Such
fun!
Got to test drive a repaired and heavily modified 40m 2 ele shorty at 50ft.
Still doing some fine tuning and need a taller tower but finally have a
productive runner for this band. Still tough to crack some of the BA/BI and
other Asians who seem to only hear the west coast big guns.
Tnx for all the Qs.
