Comments:
It was a crazy weekend, but I managed to put in 6.5 hours using a KX2, dipole,
and solar charged battery. It was fun to get 10 pointers! Note that my total
score includes the 5x power multiplier.
I never operated QRP in a contest before, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I
eventually developed a sense of when to cut losses in a pileup and move on.
Most of the time I was able to come back later when things weren't so crowded.
I even tried running a little and made 14 Qs, which surprised me. This is the
most time I've spent on the KX2 since I got it a few years ago. It is a really
fine radio. It's hard to get used to a top notch receiver in such a small
package, drawing only a couple hundred milliamps. I did not do any digital QSOs
since the KX2 finals are not designed for long key down times.
I guess many folks took advantage of the rule change since 57% of my Qs were
with class D stations. I have to admit, that was a little disappointing.
Thanks to all the folks that worked me. I didn't need to repeat my exchange
very often, but a few ops were really heroic at digging me out.
Rig: Elecraft KX2 at 5 watts
Ant: Off Center Fed Dipole at 30 feet
