Comments:
This was the first CQWWRTTY we have done at the station. After spending a good
amount of time making sure that the Flex, N1MM, etc...were all talking together
it was the hardware that tried to ruin the party. The rotatable 80m dipole was
found to be dead. The 1/2 wave 80m dipole still played well but was a set back
on 80m. Then while investigating that issue the PL259 on the main stack
tribanders broke! I quick tape job kept held the coax in place for most of the
contest.
The biggest improvement from our prior RTTY contest was the realization that I
needed much more computing power to run the Flex, N1MM and multiple decoders.
The prior computer was found to be hitting 95% CPU usage during our last
contest. The new computer was loafing at around 5% to 10% CPU and we had much
better decoding of signals.
The team was joined by Steve K5ZP who had never even made a RTTY contact before
the contest...ha. However he was a quick learner, it was nice to add some much
needed man power since the goal was to operate the whole 48 hours.
Much work still to be done on the station to provided a true second station for
these M/S categories but the pieces continue to fall into place.
