What a difference a year makes. Last year's ARRL DX CW I was operating 20m with
KL9A at K3LR. This was just before COVID blew up.
I have been very busy with work, specifically with the St. Simons Sound Incident
(M/V GOLDEN RAY that capsized in Brunswick GA). I recently returned from a
deployment there over the holidays, and will be deploying back there shortly.
Not much motivation for serious radio contesting. This will likely continue
until I retire from the USCG next summer. After record cold last week, it was a
beautiful weekend and I spend most of the time knocking out chores around the
house and yard.
Initial goal was to make a handful of Qs. After a handful, I decided to try to
make 500. After 500, I wanted to see if I could work 300 mults. Failed on the
last endeavor. All my 1st day 10/15m Qs were with the 20m Moxon and a tuner.
Last night I spent some time building a 10/15m fan dipole and of course today
10/15m were very poor compared to day 1. Felt loud much of the time; I thing
conditions favored the south with the disturbed conditions. All antennas are in
my 95ft x 40ft HOA back yard and can be quickly lowered for bad weather or work
deployments. I really do enjoy the challenge of trying to maximize what I can do
from this small foot print.
Big congrats to N6MJ @ ZF1A for the record score!
73, Dave N2NL
