UNASSISTED ! ! !

Life conspired against me and for a variety of reasons I managed only slightly
less than 10hrs of on-air time.

For the times I was on, for my small station (wires, no beams or towers) on SSB,
I found condx very challenging.

10m- dead, coroner called
15m-almost dead, coroner on stand-by/speed-dial
20m-very weak, admitted to assisted living quarters
40m-strong to next door (USA) but not going on many trips to Europe (temp
passport issued)
80m-neighbours are noisy and nobody can hear a thing. A trip to EU is right
out. Passport revoked.
160m-You have GOT to be kidding me.

Every time I was spotted, I could tell right away....5, 10 or even 20 stations
would descend upon me (I loved it !) and then crickets. 5 or 6 minutes could go
by with me CQing over and over and not one passer-by, yet, once I gave up and
S&P'd up the the band twiddling the ol' VFO knob I could be heard w/o too
much problems in most cases.

What does this tell me?

Especially now that the executive has removed the ASSISTED/UNASSISTED category,
those that don't get spotted lose out.

People are just grabbing onto that computer mouse and
clicking/clicking/clicking.....sigh, nobody turns a VFO knob much anymore.
Disappointing. I guess it's good if you're super loud and get spotted lots. The
happy clickers will find you. Long live CW (and the RBN with auto spotting)

That said, I enjoyed the unassisted (and classic) challenge. Hope life yields
more hours in the CW leg. We'll see. I have some conflicts then too.

The new RBN beta map sometimes shows me as in Ontario for reasons that are
beyond my comprehension. I am in NB.

CU (all of a sudden) in the next one.
