Comments:
Not a good weekend for contesting with lots of work interruptions, a big solar
flare and heavy rain static on Sunday. Test driving a used FTDX-101MP installed
just before WPX. Didn't have time to get fully familiar with it or set up with
rx antenna capability. So couldn't take full advantage of the superb DNR and
selectivity features which appear to easily outperform the IC-7610. My tx
antennas next to the house are hammered with high QRN for rx on the low bands.
The CME pushed K to 5 for most of the first day making copy thru the flutter and
noise very challenging on all bands. Condx improved as the weekend wore on but
SFI and SN kept dropping. At least we got some Sunday EU runs on 15, but 10m was
almost dead except for a few CA Es. JAs seemed very sparse this year.
Considering how the cycle has offered periods of stellar condx over the past 6
months of so, this weekend was disappointing compared to last year's WPX.
Rig: FTDX-101MP + SPE amp SkyHooks: 13ele HB Tribander 2ele HB 40 yagi 2
tower DA on 80 and 160. Pix and details on my QRZ page.
