Comments:
Operation in memory of our friend and legendary contester Fred Laun K3ZO who
became a Silent Key earlier this month. Fred was a mainstay for many decades
at PVRC's Downtown DC Lunch Group and other Chapter meetings. Fred was always
full of stories and good cheer, and his post-contest reports on propagation,
rare openings and band strategy were fascinating. He will be greatly missed.
As for this contest, any time you can make 1200 QSO's in 8 hours from DC mostly
running, you know the bands are in excellent shape. Vanilla WRTC-style M/2 with
no spotting, but good opportunity to test out various pieces of hardware and
software.
We took various breaks for dinner and to catch up with family members including
Patrick (K3PAL), Connor (KC3PRO and resident Beef Stew chef) and Ann (Superstar
XYL), then pulled the plug at 10PM ahead of Connor & Ken's 6AM Sunday ice
hockey commitments.
Thanks for the QSO's and see you in the Phone leg. 73!
Ken KE3X and Mark KD4D
