Just being a casual contester, I'm satisfied with my score, but blown away by
the big guns. Very interesting to see the operating skills used by these guys.
I learned a few hints on how to be heard in the pileups.
I also listened to one station W6WB who operated from a hilltop about 10 miles
southwest of my location. He had a booming station and was working stations
that I couldn't even hear. My station is low on a hillside which that blocks a
lot of the south pacific. This made me realize the advantage of antenna height
and a non-obstructing horizon. I'll just have to be content with what I have
and try to improve on future scores.
All in all, it was a fun experience and nice to see the band activity on the
upside. There are still a large number of hams enjoying this competition.
