Comments:

Park portable - Elecraft KX3, 31-ft vertical end-fed in tree, Buddipole
ground-plane for 40m.

I stayed in the park after the 3z session to test a 40m Buddipole groundplane.
Unfortunately, something in the feedline was causing unstable SWR readings and
it was difficult to diagnose in the dark. Fortunately, 20m was open and active,
and I was able to make several unusual DX contacts - England, Sweden, France,
Netherlands, and Japan - along with 4 USA mainland and Hawaii.

I managed 3 40 meter contacts - 2 in Hawaii (thanks AH6KO and AH7RF), and 1 in
Japan (arigatou JN1THL Ken-san!).

I may try this timeslot again after I diagnose the Buddipole problem, but it's a
bit eerie working in a park several hours after sunset - large bugs I usually
don't see at dusk started to stir in the darkness around my table. I don't plan
to be a regular at 7z as long as I am portable-only, unfortunately.

Aloha and thanks for the contacts!
73/72, Bob in Honolulu
