Comments:
Had an unusual chance to work the Friday SST today. The office building that
houses my court is next door to our Trade and Convention Center where the GA
Republican Party is meeting in convention today and tomorrow. A lot of public
streets are closed and traffic will be difficult, so most of us worked from home
today, leaving just a skeleton staff to man the "front counter." I
knew from the 3830 reported scores that there was not as much activity on
Fridays as on Sunday nights. 15M was open, but skip was long and I didn't hear
anyone warming up on 15 just before 2000Z, so I started on 20M. Soon was
running out of new callers and of new runners to call. Wanted some more mults,
so went to 40 with about 15 minutes left. There had been a pretty significant
skip zone on 20 (closest QSOs were in IN, IL and MD). On 40 there was no skip
zone that I could detect, but the signals of stations further away than MD, IN,
and IL were quite weak. During the last three minutes I was calling Jack, KC3M,
in PA while he was working stations closer to him that I couldn't hear at all.
Finally got Jack's attention with a few seconds left for the QSO and the PA
mult. Thanks for all the QSOs. Disappointing not to work any DX on 20M. 73,
John, K4BAI
