Comments:
Alabama seemed to be somewhat scarce this time -- it was our 83rd and last
section worked Saturday night, and we are aware of one sweep we gave out (N4ZZ).
We went into Sunday needing NS and ONN. VE1RSM supplied NS, and, after much
calling, VE3RX gave us the sweep.
This is a huge score improvement over last year's full-time effort, so maybe SSB
activity -- which has been palpably declining -- is rebounding a bit. But, the
last four hours in particular were a painful slog yet again. One thing is
certain: we sure had a hard time finding clear run frequencies on 40 & 20
meters. Low power and wire/vertical antennas are generally effective for
Sweepstakes, but they are not that great for holding a frequency. We operated
about 50/50 run/S&P with operating time split pretty much right down the
middle between us, and we're pleased with the outcome.
