Comments:
My original intent was to enter, once again, in the 15 SOA HP category. But when
the starting gun went off radio right was on 40 and radio left was on 15. So
much for the original plan. The other factor changing my mind was the recently
fixed amp, that failed in CQWW SSB, needed to be fully tested in a contest
environment. Short answer….. it is fine! The other factor that typically
drives me to a 15 SOA is my self-imposed need for sleep. So, I decided to try
for 500 Qs on 40 – 10 and then make a few on 80 and 160. Also had a goal of
greater than 100 countries on 40 – 10. Friday night I shut down at 0600 UTC.
Saturday night I shut down at 0340 UTC. The final limitation factor was shutting
down Sunday to go to a basketball game at 1745 UTC. Sure miss the old pre-Covid
days of Multi-2, the gang spending the weekend and running for the full 48
hours.
As probably everyone has already stated, the bands were in excellent shape. 80
and 40 were so quiet that I used my TX antennas for RX instead of my beverages
and had no issues copying. The only slow time was late Sunday morning when I was
trying to run on 20 to get my Qs and mults up. The rate sucked. I think everyone
was enjoying the wide open 10 and 15.
I do have to make one negative comment. Yes, I like pile-ups and I also like to
work through the pile-ups. What I do not like is when I try to pull out a call
by sending a partial call or perhaps even one letter, most of callers just
continue to send their call that does not resemble the partial I sent. The rate
goes to hell and, unfortunately, some of the, better behaved, callers leave.
Who knows if they ever come back. If stations without the partial call letters
would STOP calling, I could work through the complete pile-up much faster and
everyone would benefit.
Finally, a BIG THANKS to everyone that activated the MANY DX locations. I was
very pleased to get many in my log on several bands. Even with the new smaller
(and lower) antennas the station still seems to work.
Looking forward to the upcoming ARRL DX 160 CW contests this coming weekend.
Hope I can get in your log again!
73,
Bruce N1LN
