Hi everybody,
Had a great time in spite of the generally lousy propagation from NJ.
Only worthwhile runs occurred on 20M Sat afternoon from 1800Z to 2400Z,
then a modest run on 40 for a couple hours which fizzled fast. Sunday AM
picked up with good S & P rates and lots of good mults, but nothing
really runnable Sunday. Condx strange. I could hear 20 over S9 EU
stations all over, yet had only occasional stations coming back to CQs
most of Sunday. Last hour was one one of the better hours, when I could
finally get average EU stations to come back to CQs.
I tried 2 radio SO with CT set up on 2 separate computers, so I would
have more keyboard flexibility. It worked OK, but seemed too difficult
to worry about when rate got up to 80-100/hour. With slow rate it worked
well with the 2nd radio going down the bandmap list S&P.
Murphy paid 2 visits. Friday evening during prime time I had to QRT for
2 hours due to bad thunder storms. Visit 2 was when the Icom 781 stopped
receiving signals on Sunday afternoon. It still transmits fine but
receiver sounds as if no antenna is plugged in. Although I was on a
different band, some RF probably did some damage. Spoke to Icom today
but their suggestions didn't work and lead me to believe Rf damage. I've
never moved the 781, yet the FT1000D has been to V26B over a dozen
times, and on/off planes in San Juan probably over 25 times, and
survived the multimulti environment with no ills so far at V26B.
Station setup: #1 IC781/Alpha 78 #2 FT1000D/Alpha 87A
Antennnas: All Force 12 410/515 Magnum on 36' boom at 75'
                        320/340 Magnum on 36' boom at 62'
                        80M rotatable dipole at 72'
Inverted L at 55' on tower sloping to tree in front
yard.
                Rohn 55 tower 60ft.
All on 85 X 105 small suburban lot.

73 and hope CUL
