Thanks to all who responded. I've learned a lot. I'm either going to find some DC rated oil-filled capacitors, or use electrolytics. I do have 16x 1500uF 450V capacitors here. They are new, but date back to the 1980s, so I will have a go at reforming them, and see how it goes. There seems to be plenty of advice on the web about how to do that. Thanks to all who took the time to respond.
