To answer your 2nd question the less grid current the better. (except for
Class C AM) A good 3CX800 normally produces full output at 15-20ma. Drive
can be increased for more output but reduce the grid current with the Load
control.

Possibly showing my inexperience here, but is it the grid or plate current
that drops off with age/use.
I was thinking that as long as you can get good power out, isn't less grid
current always better than more????
