It appears that Magcap has begun to offer replacement transformers based on
the Peter Dahl specifications. I am considering the purchase of a spare,
in-cabinet replacement transformer for my Alpha 77Dx. Two possibilities
exist. It appears the direct replacement is specified as follows:
ALPHA A77S POWER TRANSFORMER INBOARD TRANSFORMER FOR 2 TUBE ALPHA 77 CORE)
A-0525/ C-CORE STYLE #) 09 HIPERSIL C-CORE PR) 120/240 VAC 60 HZ 1PH S1)
0-1800-2800 VAC @ 1.2A CCS S2) 5 VAC @ 20A CCS S3) 50 VAC @ 1.0A CCS S4)
0-22-44 VAC @ 500MA CCS DM) HT = 9.769 WT = 7.469 DT = 6.063 MD = 5.000 MW =
5.750, WEIGHT) 49 LBS
The other option is to purchase a transformer with a slightly higher
secondary voltage, but lower current rating (but equal KVA rating):
ALPHA A77S-1 POWER TRANS SPECIAL HIGHER VOLTAGE MODEL CORE) A-0525/ C-CORE
STYLE #) 09 HIPERSIL C-CORE PR) 120/240 VAC 60 HZ 1PH S1) 0-1800-3200 VAC @
1.05A CCS S2) 5 VAC @ 20A CCS S3) 50 VAC @ 1.0A CCS S4) 0-22-44 VAC @ 500MA
CCS DM) HT = 9.769 WT = 7.469 DT = 6.063 MD = 5.000 MW = 5.750, WEIGHT) 49
LBS
Has anyone had any experience with the higher-voltage transformer in the
77Dx/77Sx? And if so, what is the resulting plate voltage on the 8877?
Also, the existing transformer fit is already rather tight. Are these
replacements the exact size as the existing transformer that ETO used from
the OEM at the time?
Tnx!
Paul, W9AC
