Tubes sometimes just fail. That simple fact of life used to keep TV
repairman quite busy. All the chants to the photon Gods and voo doo
science in the world won't change the facts. ;-)
I'd add a HV surge current limiting resistor (about 20 ohms 25
watts) to the anode path, fuse the cathode line at the transformer CT
with a two amp fuse (to prevent grid-filament short damage), and
repair the damage the amp has.
