The sad and bad news is that the AL-1500's grid trip apparently does not 
protect the 8877's grid from gold-sputtering during VHF parasitic 
oscillations.  The 8877 has extraordinarily high VHF gain.  Maybe a VHF 
suppressor might be a good precaution in HF service?  All other 8877 HF 
amplifiers use a VHF suppressor.
