re: alpha amplifier problem.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to the Alpha
amplifier problem. I suggested checking the plate
blocking caps and the output tank as mentioned
below. The tank circuit and band switch for common
and not so obvious problems.

Bob replied to me that he has checked the plate
blocking caps (a pair at .001) which read "normal"
on his capacitance meter. I suggested a possible
swap out if possible as I've had many capacitors
not cut the mustard in rf service, but read near
normal capacitance values.

Then I realized this is the version with the chain
drive and that (proper alignment) would be the first
place to check past the obvious.

Bob also mentions that the Bird, 50 ohm termination
and the other items have been checked and verified
for proper operation on separate equipment.

I had the same symptoms with an Alpha 77SX... Low
power. The problem was slipped chain drive and
improperly indexed input and output band switches.
A youngster thought they were neat cranks and
cranked them over to the stops and beyond. I
re-indexed the switches and everything is fine.
