The higher the frequency, the easier an arc starts. I think it has something to 
do with the skin effect, not sure. They use high frequency generators to cause 
the arc to start on tig welders and plasma arc machines. In this case, the 
higher frequency would cause a corona to show up quicker I would think. Thing 
is, I've never seen 6 kV act that way unless it was breaking a power connection 
with a HV relay. Beleive it or not, that can be done without a vacuum relay. 
They make special air gapped relays for this. There was something a while back 
where I posted about a relay I once used and the link to it. It should be in 
the archives as I cant remember the details.
