Dear Tom,
The safest method is to use a.c. connections that cannot be
mistaken for anything but higher voltage application.
Additionally, using such connections in their higher amperage
models affords less of a "hotspot" in the a.c. cordage scheme,
less voltage drop and a pleasing appearance.
Lowe's and Home Depot both carry NEMA-rated twist-lock
flexible cord plugs, receptacles and flexible cord sockets.
They also carry the wall plate adaptors for mounting NEMA
rated Twist-Lock receptacles.
My own 1.5KW amplifiers all use 10AWG size flexible
cords going to NEMA 6 - 30 rated connectors.
These are 30 ampere, 250 volt twist lock. The wall receptacle
color coding is blue.
These come in many flavors, such as 125 volt, 30 amp;
250 volt, 20 amp; et al. The crucial thing is to make sure
you get a thirty ampere setup, at 250 volts, minimum,
with three conductors. With this size connector you will
not need to finagle the copper strands as there's plenty of
room for even 8AWG.
Respectfully,
Hal Mandel
