Doug,
You can wind it that way but the losses shoot up pretty good. The primary would
have to be put on the center leg. You may want to just wind one big coil and
mount it on the center leg (core) as the windows are wide in a 3 phase core.
That would give the most efficient design. Also, the standard transformer
equations work the same by how much area in sq. inches is in the cores cross
section, the type of steel for the max. flux density, and the laminate
thickness for the stacking factor. A 3 phase cores outside legs are the same
thickness as the center leg or core. The windows are about X2 as wide than in a
single phase type core. By this a thicker coil can be wound than on a single
phase.
