The ability to stay in the socket under vibration conditions is surely more 
down to the socket design. And retainers weren't unknown in WW2!
807s were used in some British military equipemnt: some were made over here 
with white ceramic bases, too, but I don't believe the diffrence in RF 
performance was noticeable.
