I've just looked through my 1984 Eimac power grid short-form catalogue, and 
can't find anything looking like that which you describe.

 Back in the 80's I came across an Eimac tube that I think was a 1500 
 something. As I recall it had a bayonet mount but instead of fins it 
 had many circular or curled radiators/fins on what would have been a 
 flat top. I want to say it was convection cooled and maybe 7-8" long 
 and 4" across at the anode.
 
 Ring any bells?
