Another problem is that many if not most 4X1's have been beat on hard in commercial service, have low emission, and are being driven hard and at very high voltages at times If I am not mistaken, the 4X1 "typical" GG service is rated at 3KV. Pump it up with the proverbial "pole pig" power supply at 6KV and something has to go out of spec.
