4CX250B amps can also be built using no sockets what
so ever. Very simple and easy and works extreamly good,
forexample look at the YU1AW design.

Regarding the use of 4CX 250's in linears, one of the possible constraints might be the costs associated with the purchase of the appropriate sockets to go with them.
The tubes are realistically priced (surplus that is) but the sockets seem to be out of all proportion to them and the cost of buying them new is unbelieveable.
