I just wanted to interject my experiences with eBay. I try to NEVER bid on something I want before the last few seconds of the auction. My reason for this is I have had items go way out of reason in price because two guys get into a bidding war early on in the time the auction runs. As someone mentioned before, some guys just hate to loose and will run the price up way out of reason just to win. I once got into a bidding bash with an unnamed ham (but I will tell you he is in a lot of microphone adds) over a KW Johnson matchbox and ended up paying an ok price, but it was a bit higher than I wanted to pay originally. In any case, I do wait until the last few seconds of an auction and then place my bid for the absolute limit of what I am willing to pay and then see what happens. Sometimes I get lucky and get it for less, sometimes I don't.
