[Amps] transceiver to amp relay connection

the stated specs for the SEND relay on my radio are +16VDC 0.5A
the stated specs for the Key Input sink are +12VDC 100mA


i know that the specs jive, but i'm curious if it's bad form to direct 
connect the radio to the amp.  should i use a relay between the two devices?
