If you want to make a balun by coiling up a bunch of coax you should check this out first. Removes all the anecdotal BS and gives you something real to work with.

When I replaced my TH3 balun I used a DX Engineering current choke, including the appropriate clamps for attaching it to the boom. Been using the TH3 since 1967. Only recently got an amp, though, which is when the balun failed.

Roger,

I had a look for the connectors you mentioned. It isn't clear to me which ones would be appropriate for the Ham M. Do they mount in place of the terminal board or do they just hang from wires dangling from the rotator?

I had the same problem many years ago. Hy-Gain made a replacement balun
called the something-2000, which did the job. I don't know if Hy-Gain is
even around anymore, but if you can find one, that will fix it.

Hy-Gain is still around. Same people, even in the same buildings, or
were when I called about parts for the AV640 vertical a few months back.
The only difference is, I believe they are owned MFJ.

I see they are advertizing the new connector kit for the tail
twister/Ham series rotators which work on all the Ham series and a
marked improvement over the old terminal strip.
