Some BlackCat amps were marketed a little differently to fool the FCC (We all
know how stupid they are right?) Look out on the schematic page and the JB-12
using a 6L6 type (7581A) tube was sold as a receive preamp! There was also the
JB-One SS receive preamp using a MRF-454! Outrageous!!

I case anyone cares, here's a site with the prints on those amps, there were a
few version of the mod circuit and the amp itself:

It as a little different than that. They set it up to act like the Drake T4xb
in AM. You could drive it with low power and it would have a resting carrier of
low power (under 100 watts) but when modulated, it would give a peak on a
normal what meter over 1000 watts. You could use it key down in the am mode w/0
upgraded transformer because it had not much more of a duty cycle than if in
SSB. Sounded really loud on frequency and off.

HEH!
Actually, all that really is, is a Copy of the HeathKit SB-220. and it would
do about the same. It might have RF sensing relays in it. But other than
that. it's about the same. I don't know if it has a "low drive" set up or
not.
