The NEC does not permit you to protect a #10 circuit with anything larger than
a 30 ampere breaker. Use #8 for a 40 ampere circuit.
If you use a large circuit to feed small loads, you must tap the circuit
conductors and go directly to a smaller fuse or circuit breaker to properly
protect the smaller conductors, receptacle and equipment.

I guess with 10/3 I
could make it a 40A circuit as you suggested and get all the receivers
and exciters off the house circuits. I have two amps but never run more
than one at a time.
