As long as one has access to CAT data, one could use the microHAM
Station Master (Band Decoder) which has a PA Port that can be
configured to control either Yaesu style (BCD) or Icom Style (CI-V)
amplifiers. See:

I changed my exciter from FT-5000 to Flex 6300 SDR, but can not make it
amplify. PTT and ALC lines interface fine. The VL-1000 is supposed to
have an RF sample capability to set the band and auto-tuner, but have not
been able to get that working.
