Back in the '60s, we had an old Marconi tx at the radio club. It ran 6 807's in
push parallel, driven by 2 in parallel, and modulated by 4 in push-pull
parallel. That had a VOCSU 'Voice Operated Carrier Switching Unit', and people
complained bitterly if you used the VOCSU bit on the air - I guess mainly
because of the effects on the rx agc. Basically, it was an awful
transmitter.....but the only AM tx I've ever seen with VOX.
