Mauri says:
>Inherently, a solid state amplifier MUST be fully protected
That can be the problem - protection can cost as much as the rest of the
amplifier! Mauri is quite correct in what he says, and the longer term future is
definitely all solid state. Again, Mauri is right when he says 'such units are
not cheap at all.' For big tx's and commercial applications, the total cost of
ownership over the lifetime must be factored in as well: that means that
avoiding fans and coolant pumps and the infrequent maintenance of them is
another factor to consider.
Mauri also says:
>The overall efficiency of a solid state amplifier is finally
> not so better than a vacuum tube amplifier like it's
>often claimed.
A very true statement, in spite of all the 'hype' of the modern tx
manufacturers!
